Wowsers! I was about to post this photo to celebrate the events of my week and suddenly realised today marks one year since my thyroid cancer journey began.
A year ago tonight, I was lying in a hospital bed, endone-d up, and wondering what the future held.
I’m overwhelmed and proud to reflect on how far I’ve come. The impact of two surgeries and radiation has been profound … Physically, emotionally and mentally gruelling. Energy became a rare luxury. Hard questions had to be answered. But slowly and surely, my body, mind and soul have regained strength and spirit, and I love them all for it.
This week alone, I have achieved things I couldn’t have dreamed of doing six months ago. I have learned that I am stronger than I ever knew. That having a connection to something bigger than me helps. That I have the right to question and be my own advocate. That healing takes time. That I am being taken care of by the universe. That in times like these, people reveal their true colours. And of course: Life’s too short … Wear the red shoes.
Tired but grateful #selfie as I wrap filming on a two-day shoot. Worked with wonderful people, challenged myself, learned lots and discovered why high heels are the devil. As a bonus, some lovely hair and makeup ladies took me from the Wreck of the Hesperus at 6 am to bright and bubbly by 7 am. (thank you @nishavanberkel and Deb).
